What next for Virtual Console?

--- Cytuj ---It was 27 March when we heard that The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask would be coming to Japan in April. Never did we expect that a week later it would be available for download in Europe. Yet, to the delight of Zelda fans new and old, that's exactly what happened on Friday.

As you can read in our review, Majora's Mask is an essential game for any Zelda fan. While Ocarina Of Time is generally accepted to be the greatest Zelda game of all time, Majora's Mask is an amazing follow up for more reasons than one. Complex and challenging, it can be daunting for beginners but that's how it should be. In fact, I've known many people who would consider themselves to be hardcore gamers who struggled to complete Majora's Mask.

It goes without saying that it's a high point for Virtual Console. There haven't been many essential downloads in recent weeks so this was a welcome addition that must have brightened up many people's weekends.

Yet now Majora's Mask has been added to Virtual Console, it will be interesting to see which N64 game will be made available for download next. Aside from Super Smash Bros. and Pilotwings, most of Nintendo's big guns are now available. Obviously there are plenty of Rare games that haven't been released - GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie - but we've seen no sign that these will come to Virtual Console any time soon. Other than that, ONM's Chris Scullion would love to see the reurn of WWF No Mercy and ISS 64.

So we may have to look further than N64 for our next treat and for me, there is one game I'd love to see on Virtual Console more than any other and that's Super Mario Kart. I'm happy with Mario Kart 64 but it would be great to have another go on the original's Battle Mode.

How about you? What would you like to download next?

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen

--- Cytuj --- An almighty 7 titles across the three downloadable formats for Nintendo gamers this week, as the Hanabi Festival kicks off with a Pulse and a Battle.

First up are two new games for Virtual Console that have never been released in the EU before. Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen from Square-Enix brings the acclaimed strategy series to our shores for the first time ever, and even at 900 points, it being one of the best Strategy games of all time should sway you.
The second game is from a development studio many gamers here will recognize as the maker of the Pokemon Handheld games. Pulseman from Game Freak is a fun platformer that uses the electric nature of the main character and his world to navigate, attack and solve puzzles. Also 900 Points.

For Wiiware, there is the showing of Gradius Rebirth from Konami, a side-scrolling homage to the shooters of yesteryear, with 8-Bit visuals like those of Mega Man 9, and borrowed elements from the original Gradius games. The game is 1000 points in the states, but over here we can get it for 600 Points. Bargain eh?
The other new Wiiware title on show is Bit Boy!! from the makers of Plattchen and Niki- Rock 'n Ball. A unique premise sees the main character of this game exploring 6 worlds, each one based on a different visual point of gaming history; ranging from the 8-Bit Blocks of the NES, to the 128-Bit Smoothness of the Gamecube. Also 600 Points if you feel daring enough to give this one a go.

For DSiWare, there are three new additions to the shop channel, although two of them are basic Applications, in the form of Mario Clock and Mario Calculator. You can guess what each of them does, and with both set at 200 points each, you might want to give them a try.
The last new game up for download is Brain Challenge from Gameloft, in what seems to be a more-or-less port of the decent WiiWare game of the same name. 800 Points here.
