NIS will be bringing a new installment of Ar Tonelico to the PS3 early next year. Just revealed in the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, NIS will be releasing Ar Tonelico 3 in Japan on January 28, 2010. Ar Tonelico acts like an extension of the Atelier Iris games. With cute 2D sprites and RPG elements, the Ar Tonelico series has been popular in Japan, but has struggled to find a firm grasping elsewhere -- minus the usual NIS crowd. Details are currently limited on the new announcement, but with a release coming up in the very near future, the game may not differ much from the PS2 counterparts in terms of gameplay. The game will jump to 3D in terms of graphics, but still retain 2D character portraits in menues.NIS America released Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica on the PS2 in January of this year. Developed by Gust, the game took place a couple years after Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia. Using the same kind of graphical style and battle system, fans of the series welcomed Ar Tonelico 2 with open arms. Though it did suffer from a game crashing bug towards the end of the game, it was mostly translated well.Whether or not NIS America will pick up Ar Tonelico 3 can?t be known, yet. Since the first two have released stateside, it?s a good bet to assume NIS America will publish this newly announced entry.
Gust?s next big game is Ar Tonelico III and it?s a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game stars Aoto, a strapping lad who is accompanied by two reyvateils, Saki, a lab born Reyvateil on the run, and Phinnel, a pure blood Reyvateil. These characters live on a third tower known as Sol Cluster. (Thanks for the tip Bradley!!)Song magic is still a key feature of Ar Tonelico III, but the battle system has been revised. Players can make custom songs with the R.A.H. system and change the background music in real time. Diving into the minds of your party members, an Ar Tonelico hallmark, returns and just like the other games, the feature is used to procure more songs. It also looks like Gust shifted the game?s presentation from 2D to 3D.
Namco Bandai will release Ar Tonelico III on January 28, 2010.
