Nintendo Announces Labo, A Range Of Interactive DIY Toys For Switch
Satoru Shibata, Nintendo of Europe’s President, had this to say:
Our goal is to put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches. Nintendo Labo invites anyone with a creative mind and a playful heart to make, play and discover in new ways with Nintendo Switch. I personally hope to see many people enjoying making kits with their family members, with big smiles on their faces.
Two kits will launch on April 27th. The Variety Kit contains the Toy-Con RC Car, Toy-Con Fishing Rod, Toy-Con House, Toy-Con Motorbike and Toy-Con Piano.
+ Toy-Con RC Car: Insert the Left and Right Joy-Con into your newly built RC Car and control its movement using touch screen controls on the Nintendo Switch. The HD rumble feature in the Joy-Con controllers will cause vibrations that move the car in the direction you choose. Materials to construct two RC Cars are included.
+ Toy-Con Fishing Rod: Construct the Fishing Rod with an active, rotating reel that is attached by string to a cradle holding the Nintendo Switch console. Catch one of many exotic fish shown swimming on the Nintendo Switch screen by casting your Fishing Rod and unwinding the reel to lower the hook. Once you feel a vibration from the Joy-Con inserted in the reel, you must crank the reel quickly and tug the Fishing Rod upwards to try and complete the catch.
+ Toy-Con House: By inserting various assembled blocks into openings in the sides and bottom of the House, you can interact, feed and play games with a cute creature on the front-facing Nintendo Switch screen. Each differently shaped block is detected by the IR Motion Camera on the Right Joy-Con inserted on top of the House.
+ Toy-Con Motorbike: Insert each Joy-Con into an assembled set of handlebars to drive a motorbike on the Nintendo Switch screen. Pressing the ignition button starts the engine, twisting the right handle activates the throttle, and leaning your body or turning the handlebars left and right controls the motorbike.
+ Toy-Con Piano: After assembling a beautifully crafted 13-key piano and inserting the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con, you can create your own music by pressing different keys. You can even insert different assembled knobs to create new sound effects and tones.
The second "Robot" kit only has one model, but it's a wearable suit:
Create a wearable robot suit, and insert the Left and Right Joy-Con into the designated slots on the backpack and visor to assume control of the robot, which is shown on the TV when the Nintendo Switch console is docked. Enjoy a variety of fun game-play experiences, including Robot mode, where you can destroy in-game buildings and UFOs.
Nintendo is going big on the creative angle here; the promotional video shows Toy-Con customised with paint and tape. To support such artistic endeavours a special "Customisation Set" that includes stencils, stickers and coloured tape will also be available to purchase from 27th April.
Nintendo is holding a series of Labo Workshops where kids, parents, media and "influencers" will get the chance to come together to "make, play and discover"; the more photogenic attendees may even become part of Nintendo's campaign to promote Labo around the world. Nintendo Labo – details about building process and more, Nintendo will offer replacement parts
The Guardian has shared some additional details about Nintendo Labo after going hands-on with it during a recent press event. Here’s a recap of the information the publication provides:
– Follow Lego-like instructions on the Switch screen
– Punch out the cardboard pieces and assemble them into contraptions of varying complexity
– Project in which you assemble a simple little bug-like radio-controlled car takes about 15 minutes
– Pull up the controls on the Switch’s screen, and the vibrations send it juddering across a flat surface with surprising speed
– Telescopic fishing rod with a working reel are attached to a base with elastic bands and string for realistic tension
– Each contraption is made out of cardboard and string
– Piano takes about 2 hours to build
– The infrared camera on the Joy-Con controller can see reflective strips of tape on the back of the keys, which come into view when a key is pressed, telling the game software to play the right note
– Cardboard dials and switches modify the tone and add effects to the sound
– The principles behind each construction are explained by cartoon characters
– Switch screen shows a cross-section of each model that illustrates what the Joy-Con camera can see and how it works
– Robot set translates your punches and kicks into building-levelling virtual smashes
– Nintendo plans to offer replacement cardboard kits and templates for players who break theirs
– You can stick the cardboard Toy-Cons back together with glue or tape, reinforce them, or decorate them with pens, washi tape or googly eyes, without affecting their functionality

Dla dzieciaków może być naprawdę super sprawa. Sam bym chętnie przetestował, tylko cena odstrasza. No i w najbliższej przyszłości raczej nie ma co liczyć, na jakieś bardziej ambitne gry wykorzystujące ten pomysł. Jeśli jednak to się sprzeda (a jest to nawet całkiem prawdopodobne), to może w przyszłości zobaczymy ciekawsze projekty.
Reggie leaves the door open to more gameplay possibilities and third-party support with Nintendo Labo
TIME was recently able to speak with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime about Nintendo Labo. The first topic discussed is the potential to expand on the idea and the use of the Toy-Cons, of which Reggie had this to share:
“Can [the Toy-Cons] be incorporated into other forms of gameplay? Certainly. But right now we think if we effectively communicate the power of the idea with Nintendo Labo [and] really enable players to make their creations, personalize them, and enjoy the [inherent] gameplay experiences . . . We think that’s going to be a great way to start and then progress down the path.”
Reggie was also asked about the possibility of third-parties getting involved with their own Labo kits. Regarding that, he said, “While there’s nothing to announce today, certainly if we’re successful with Labo, it can create future opportunities.”
Lastly, Reggie passed along the following to The Verge:
“Labo is unlike anything we’ve done before. We see this as helping in our quest to broaden the audience for Nintendo Switch. I do think there is an opportunity for this to go quite broad from an age-perspective.”

Gdzieś czytałem, że Nintendo samo będzie udostępniać schematy za darmo i słusznie, bo średnio sobie wyobrażam wydawania kasiorki za zestaw (w którym pewnie na 50$ wyceniono kart z grą/oprogramowaniem, a reszta to kartony) dla dzieciaka, który uszkodzi lub zniszczy go w jeden dzień, a niektóre sety wyglądają wybitnie licho.
Podoba mi się, że Nintendo jest całkowicie w swoim świecie i mają kompletnie wyje**ne na trendy próbując czegoś nowego, nie bojąc się totalnej klapy pomysłu, jednocześnie budując pożywkę dla prześmiewców. Sam się uśmiecham do siebie, gdy myślę o spotkaniach w ich dziale rozwoju produktów, podczas których rozmawiali o tworzeniu tego projektu. Z kolei wiele rzeczy może pójść nie tak i albo będzie to genialny w swej prostocie pomysł, który dobrze się przyjmie, pojawią się "kartony" dla gierek third party, albo będzie to największy babol od czasów Virtual Boya z masowymi pozwami od rodziców, których dzieci zaplątały się w sznurki ;)

Ja zawsze propsuje takie zabawki. Ta akurat mnie nie interesuje, ale to czy eye pet, wonderbook itp. to możliwość zainteresowania grami dzieciaka i nie musi być tk gta 5 i mordowanie dziwek aby odebrać kasę za usługę :)

Nintendo Will Freely Provide Cardboard Design Patterns For Labo
IGN France confirmed that Labo Kits won’t actually be required to play Labo games, the cartridge or download will be all that you need. Cardboard design patterns for the various games will freely be provided online, meaning that you can replace or build parts with just about any material, provided you’re crafty enough. Here’s what was said by Nintendo:
Note that the kits will not be mandatory - although the cartridge is needed - since Nintendo plans to offer the cardboard design pattern for free for aspiring builders

Imo Nintendo Labo będzie sprzedawać się bardzo dobrze. Gry w zestawach będą badziewiste, ale największa radocha będzie tkwić w składaniu elementów (może też nazwa "Labo" ma się podświadomie kojarzyć z "Lego"). Poza tym na dzieciakach zawsze wrażenie robią duże, ładne opakowania i w tym wydaje mi się będzie tkwić sukces tego czegoś. Patrząc na ceny zestawów Lego, Nintendo Labo może się wydać całkiem atrakcyjne. Czy jednak przełoży się to na zwiększoną sprzedaż konsoli, to już druga sprawa. Dla samego Labo raczej nikt nie kupi Switcha.

Labo's Cardboard Revolution Adds Almost $1.4 billion to Nintendo's Value
A year ago, the reveal of Nintendo Switch helped swell Nintendo's market value by a staggering $1 billion, and now, mere months before the release of Nintendo Labo, the Japanese firm's worth has shot up by another 2.4%. That might not sound like a big percentage, until you realise that translates into a tasty $1.4 billion, closing out its market performance on a seven-week high.
As we know, Labo's reveal has seen Twitter and the internet frothing with takes of various temperatures, but that clearly hasn't stopped the economic impact from playing firmly into Nintendo's favour. In a report by the Financial Times, financial analyst David Gibson (of investment firm Macquarie) reacts positively to Ninty's divisive cardboard creations, saying: "This is exactly the kind of crazy idea that Nintendo are known for which we believe will help expand the company’s audience." He made the prediction that Nintendo Labo would initially sell somewhere between 1m and 2m units - which is around $45m-$90m in operating profits.

Tak sobie myślałem, że głównym czynnikiem, który może sprawić, że Labo się nie przyjmie, jest nie tyle słaba wytrzymałość tektury, co jest mało gustowny wygląd. Zabawka niby fajna, ale po złożeniu gdzieś musi leżeć, a przecież mało miejsca nie zajmuje. Tymczasem na pierwszy rzut wygląda jak jakieś śmieci. W dużych, amerykańskich domach takie coś może się przyjąć, lecz w Europie czy Japonii już niekoniecznie. Ciekaw jestem, jak to się rozwinie i czy okaże się sukcesem. Zapytałem chrześniaka, co o tym myśli (na początku lutego kończy 12 lat) i powiedział tylko "dziwne".

Zapytałem chrześniaka, co o tym myśli (na początku lutego kończy 12 lat) i powiedział tylko "dziwne".
Dokładnie. Tak piszecie, ze dla dzieciaków super sprawa, a one maja gdzieś takie pierdoły z tektury. 3-4 latek za to i tak nie ogarnie grania w tym.
Zabawka na raz nawet nie dlatego, że tektura licha, co po prostu te pseudo "gry" to jest zabawa na raz :lol:

No ja majac na mysli dzieciaki myslalem o troche mlodszych niz 12 lat. A Master zdziwilbys sie jak 4 latek by to szybko ogarnal.

Myślę, że to głównie zabawka pomyślana o dzieciach w wieku 6-12 lat. Po preorderach widać, że pomysł ma wzięcie. Przynajmniej na razie. Dobra reklama i duże ładne opakowania mogą zresztą skusić dzieciaki, które na razie pozostają sceptyczne.

– Have to hold down the touchscreen buttons to move the tutorial forwards and backwards
– The Labo app clearly lays out what you need to be working on, and how exactly you need to fold specific creases to construct each accessory
– Can use the Switch’s touchscreen to move the on-screen diagram, letting you see different angles
– RC car takes about 15 minutes to make
– Attach a cardboard antenna to the Switch tablet and use the Labo app to buzz the RC car
– The app lets you control the intensity and direction of its vibrations
– Labo Fishing Rod is much more complex since it involves moving parts
– All of its components are spread across six cardboard sheets, and they number in the dozens
– First need to construct the three extending portions of the rod
– Some components of the rod are very large
– Fishing rod takes at least 50 minutes to make (unclear how much more time needed)
– Motorbike accessory is basically just a pair of handlebars, with space for a Joy-Con in each, and a nook for the Switch tablet in the middle
– It also has a long base, which rests against your thigh or stomach to balance the entire contraption as your playing
– Start the engine by hitting a cardboard trigger under your thumb
– Rev up by twisting the right handlebar, as you would an actual motorcycle
– Labo House interacts with a variety of cardboard accessories
– Each of those has a different function
– One just rotates, one serves as a large button, and another is a switch with two modes
– There are slots on the sides and bottom of the house for inserting the blocks, each of which changes the environment for the inhabitant inside the virtual house
– Popping in two of the blocks unlocks a minigame
– Ex: the rotating crank and button unlock a conveyor belt that charges up and gets releases when you slap the button
– The crank and switch lets you microwave a bunch of ingredients to create a virtual cupcake
– Piano Toy-Con turns the Switch into a portable synthesizer
– You can alter the notes by inserting blocks at the top of the piano, which turn the keys into things like cat cries and operatic voices
– A lever on the left side lets you alter the pitch of the keys
– You can also kick off some pre-recorded songs by hitting the play button
– Fishing rod game uses the Switch in its vertical orientation
– The console sits in a tray, which also houses the string that connects to the fishing rod
– The Joy-Con are in the base and rotating crank portions of the rod
– When you’re sitting in front of the Switch, it’s as if your physical fishing line is connected directly to its virtual counterpart
– It reacts fluidly as you move the rod around
– HD Rumble used for the feedback from fish biting and fighting against your line

Nintendo Labo allows for rudimentary programming and customization with “Toy-Con Garage”
With a “Toy-Con Garage” feature, it will be possible to implement rudimentary programming and customization. Further details on this are below.
– Some of the custom toys Nintendo showed off included an electric guitar and a basic game of electronic tennis
– Toy Con Garage uses simple “building blocks” to let you program your devices
– They’re essentially “if-then” statements
– When you open up the program, you can select from a number of blocks based on input options for your Switch’s controllers
– Then connect them to other blocks based on output options.
– Ex: you can connect the left Switch controller’s B button (input) to the right Switch controller’s vibration feature (output)
– By doing so, whenever you press B on the left Joy Con, the right Joy Con will buzz
– This is how Nintendo Labo users will be able to expand beyond the six types of cardboard creations included in the Variety Set or the one included in the Robot Set
– Ex: Instead of making a piano, you can make a guitar
– Or instead of making a toy car, you can build a little cardboard man who falls flat on his face
– You can mix and match different programs’ functionality—using the fishing rod to play music
– You can even add extra Joy Cons to build even more elaborate programs

Nawet spoko te filmiki. Gry z pierwszego zestawu też nie wydają się wcale takie złe, jak z początku myślałem. Co do robota, to nadal nie jestem przekonany.
Edit:
Siostrzeniec był z początku sceptyczny, ale po obejrzeniu powyższych filmików zmienił zdanie. Jeśli Nintendo wyłoży odpowiednio dużo kasy na marketing i przedstawi dobrze pomysł w reklamach, to szykuje się spory hit sprzedażowy (coś na zasadzie Wii Fit*). Podejrzewam, że Nintendo chce do tego podejść długofalowo i wydawać rocznie około 2-3 paczki Labo (oczywiście, jeśli pomysł nie okaże się wtopą).
* dla przypomnienia obie części Wii Fit sprzedały się w ponad 20 mln egzemplarzy każda.

W Japonii Labo jest ostro promowane. Zobaczymy, jaka będzie sprzedaż w pierwszym tygodniu. Choć to produkt z tej kategorii, że albo się przyjmie i będzie mega hitem, albo tylko chwilową nowinką, o której wszyscy prędko zapomną.
Na razie zestawy nawet specjalnie ocen nie mają, choć premiera w USA i Japonii przypadła na 20 kwietnia (w Europie dopiero 27 kwietnia). Ogólnie jednak opinie krytyków zdają się być pozytywne.

Labo w pierwszym tygodniu w Japonii poradziło sobie dobrze, ale jakiejś super rewelacji nie ma. Tym bardziej biorąc pod uwagę marketing Nintendo porównywalny z premierą Super Mario Odyssey. Zobaczymy, jak Labo poradzi sobie w dłuższej perspektywie. Łatwo na pewno nie będzie. No i widać, że Variety Kit cieszy się dużo większym powodzeniem niż Robot Kit.

Nintendo Labo Sold Only 30% of Shipment in Japan
The two Labo kits sold a combined 119,039 units. That would put initial shipments for the two kits at around 400,000 units.
The figure could mean one of two things. Either, Nintendo expected it to sell better or the company wanted to overship in its first week, so it wouldn't need to ship more units over the coming weeks.

Jak widać Robot Kit słusznie cieszy się mniejszym zainteresowaniem. Wielu recenzentów nie wystawiło ocen ze względu na specyfikę Nintendo Labo, ale z tego, co widać i tak nie jest źle.

Ogólnie myślałem, że Labo zrobi więcej szumu. O jakichś super konstrukcjach zrobionych za pomocą Labo też za bardzo nie słychać. Nintendo popełniło błąd nie wydając Labo w okolicach świąt. Wtedy mogłoby zrobić dużo więcej zamieszania. Pewnie zobaczymy jakąś nową paczkę na święta, choć może się okazać, że tym się skończy. Pomysł fajny i godny uznania, ale chyba nie zrobi takiej furory, jak sądziło Nintendo.

Nintendo says more of its games will be given Labo compatibility in the future
In an announcement covering today’s patch and new contest, Nintendo states: “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the first game outside of Nintendo Labo software to receive Toy-Con support, and more titles will be compatible with Nintendo Labo in the future.” The company did not elaborate beyond this.

Labo szału nie zrobiło, dobrze jednak, że Nintendo na razie nie porzuca tego pomysłu. Pewnie w przygotowaniu jest też kolejna paczka z mini grami.

Nintendo has just revealed a new Labo adventure will arrive on 14th September for the price of $69.99. The Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit contains materials to build a variety of customisable Toy-Con, including a car, submarine, plane, pedal and two keys. Once constructed, these cardboard creations provide access to a variety of fun games and activities.
The kit includes a physical copy of the Labo Vehicle software as well as the following parts and materials:
Cardboard sheet x 25 (includes extra sheet for customization)

(In Adventure Mode) players explore a large landmass full of themed zones while switching off at will from controlling a car, plane, or—where there’s water—a submarine.
The scale of the world is large but not vast, more Wii Sports Resort than Breath of the Wild.
The zones are all themed. I flew over a city zone and unlocked a meadow. I drove past a desert complete with pyramids.
Every vehicle has supplemental abilities. The submarine can fire torpedoes. The plan can shoot missiles. The car can . . . throw bombs.
Your player-character is an androgynous, flattened crash test dummy.
There’s a simple multiplayer slot-car racing mode and a car battle mode.

Deemo getting Nintendo Labo support, first third-party game to be compatible with Toy-Con
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the first Nintendo game to be updated with Nintendo Labo support. As for third-party titles, we’re starting to finally see some movement on that front.
Nintendo’s Japanese website reveals that Deemo will soon be compatible with Labo. You’ll be able to use the Toy-Con Piano to play some of the songs with an update scheduled for October.

Tym razem gra jest nieco lepsza, jednak też niczym specjalnym nie zaskakuje.
Za to (przynajmniej w Japonii) jest sprzedażową klapą. Wygląda chyba na to, że Nintendo będzie musiało odejść od Labo w przyszłym roku. Wyjdzie pewnie jeszcze gra lub dwie i na tym się skończy.

Poznajcie Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit
Tym razem Nintendo wprowadzi na rynek swoje uproszczone gogle VR w ramach zestawu Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit. Chodzi w tym przypadku o przystawkę optyczną do wyświetlacza Switch, więc trzeba liczyć się z ograniczoną jakością obrazu stereoskopowego.
Sprzęt dostępny będzie na rynku w dwóch wersjach: pełnej, kosztującej 80 dolarów, w której znajdziemy oprócz gogli również software i 5 kartonowych konstrukcji oraz w ograniczonej, kosztującej 40 dolarów, która zawierać będzie tylko gogle i wyłącznie jeden kartonowy projekt ("blaster"). Będzie w takiej opcji minimalnej możliwość dokupywania oddzielnie pozostałych projektów (w pudełkach znajdziemy parę wybranych konstrukcji) w cenie 20 dolarów za zestaw.
Nintendo nie zaprezentowało jeszcze gameplayu z szykowanych gier w zestawie Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit.

Polecam. Fajna zabawka jak za taką cenę. Nie mam porównania do innych gogli, ale chyba nie jest tragicznie. Bawiłem się przednio, miałem efekt wow przy pierwszym użyciu. Złożenie jest łatwe, tylko radzę uważać jeżeli ma się kota pudełkofila :mad:
