Square recently announced Nier, an action-adventure game that would fall more in the line with the combo-chain attack feel of Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry if it didn´t feature a protagonist in his late 30s trying to find a cure for his ailing daughter. How´s that fo a strange twist on an otherwise macho-tastic genre? Very intriguing. Nier is set for a 2010 release for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; expect us to venture deeper once we dig up more info.

Neir, the oft teased action-adventure game, has finally been announced by Square-Enix. Set in a crumbling world plagued by disease and dark, unrecognizable creatures, players assume the role of the unyielding titular protagonist, resolute in his quest to discover a cure for his daughter, who is infected with the Black Scrawl virus. The game is being developed by Cavia, the Japanese studio behind, well... to put it gently, a bunch of games that you've likely never heard of. Square first announced it in the latest issue of XBox Magazine, though the game had been teased in PlayStation magazines as well.
Neir has been confirmed to be at E3, and will be available for the XBox 360, PS3, and PC in 2010.

Nier is something of a new venture for Square Enix. Traditionally known for their role-playing games, they've had a few forays into other genres in the past, to mixed success. However, one of the successes was Kingdom Hearts, something of an action adventure / role-playing hybrid.
Nier is said to be much more hardcore though, promising a full action adventure experience. That said, after seeing the first in-game footage from Nier, there are still some comparisons that could be drawn between the two games, namely with the enemies.
However, Yosuke Saito, the producer of the game, was quick to dispel any rumours about the involvement of Kingdom Hearts creator, Tetsuya Nomura:
Nomura is not going to have any involvement with this title. As far as enemies looking similar, it?s just a coincidence (laughs).
This could be seen as a good thing, or a bad one. Many fans would have loved to hear that Nomura was in some way involved with Nier and it would have definitely increased their expectations for the title. With so many other projects on the go though, there could have been concerns about stretching his talents too far.
Nier still has a long way to go in its development and is expected to hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point during 2010.
quare Enix confirmed that their upcoming action RPG Nier will be released in two different versions, Nier Gesthalt for the Xbox 360 and Nier RepliCant for the PS3. While we already knew some details about the 360 title, very little was known about the PS3 one and all the pictures released so far actually came from Gestalt.
Today, as reported by the Japanese portal GameWatch, the first screenshots for RepliCant (that you can see on the left and below) have been released alongside some details.
The story is similar to that of Gestalt, but the main character (also named Nier, we don't know if it's the same character) will have to save his little sister affected by an incurable illness named "Black Sentence Plague". As he will progress in his quest he will find out more about the nature of the world and about the reasons why the demons inhabiting it have began to succumb to madness.
Both Nier Gestalt and Nier RepliCant will be released in 2010, developed by studio Cavia (Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles, Bullet Witch, Drakengard, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex...) and both will be officially shown at Tokyo Game show, respectively at Microsoft's and Sony's booths.
As a final juicy detail, tomorrow (September the 18th) the first trailer for Nier RepliCant will be aired on the Square Enix channel on Youtube.
Nothing is known about the reasons behind the decision of releasing two exclusive titles instead of a multiplatform one. Maybe Square Enix doesn't want to incur on the same problems they are facing with Final Fantasy XIII, forced by contract to deliver two identical versions of the same game and not able to fully take advantage of the strenghts of each console (like the additional space offered bt PS3's Blu-ray). If that's the case, it might actually be a wise decision.
In the end a multiplatform title has to settle for the lowest common denominator in basically every aspect, while two different ones, even if they share the same characters and setting, can use the consoles' capabilities fully, without allowing direct comparisons that could cause diplomatic incidents with Microsoft or Sony. Each of them gets their game the best that it can be and everyone wins.
Xbox 360 owners here in Japan are getting Nier Gestalt. PS3 owners are getting Nier Replicant. What's the difference between these two?
Square Enix hasn't been particularly forthcoming on the differences. But this month's Famitsu Xbox 360 provides some answers.
Executive producer Yosuke Saito told the magazine that Nier Gestalt, the Japanese Xbox 360 version of the game, is basically the international version of Nier. In other words, it's the version that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners outside of Japan will be getting.
In Japan, PS3 players will be getting a unique version of Nier in Replicant. This version was created as Cavia and Square Enix consulted on what would be fitting for the Japanese market.
Screenshots have already shown the main differences between the two titles. Gestalt has an older, more masculine hero, who's out to save his daughter. Replicant has a younger, more effeminate hero who's out to save his younger sister.
This wasn't mentioned in the Famitsu Xbox 360 article, but the sister and daughter appear to be the same person. I played the Tokyo Game Show version of Gestalt, and noticed the Yohan character, who was first described in Famitsu's first PS3 preview of the game as being Nier's sister. She's presumably the daughter in Gestalt.
Saito was a bit vague on the actual differences in content between the two versions, saying that players could consider the "game design" to be the same between the two and that it's not the case that you'll only be able to see 100% of the game by playing both titles.
Elsewhere in the interview, Saito said that Nier would not have co-op play . However, download content is under consideration.
Saito also commented on one curiosity of the TGS Gestalt demo. That demo had English voices. The Japanese version of the game will be like this, with English voices and Japanese subtitles.
Tyle co nic pokazali .... -_-Czyli standard...
Wygląda to zaskakująco ubogo.

Nier was released in Japan on April 24th in two slightly different versions: Nier Replicant on the Playstation 3 and Nier Gestalt on the Xbox 360.
The Action-RPG is apparently selling above Square Enix’s expectations so far in Japan, at least when it comes to the first shipment. According to a message to fans on Twitter, Square Enix revealed that Nier Replicant on the Playstation 3 has already sold out. Furthermore, Nier Gestalt on the Xbox 360 is also in short supply. Fortunately, the publisher said that the situation will improve over the weekend.
Nier Gestalt, simply known as Nier in the west, comes out for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 today in North America.
Japierdole.
Dawaj Ryo heheHehe, no to będzie elaborat prze tyle lat
Ponoć 2 razy trzeba przejść aby zaliczyć fabułęYep, baaardzo dużo wnosi drugie przejście.
Skończyłem. Później coś powinienem skrobnąć.
