?In a sense, we want to take this as a chance to reintroduce the American public to what Monster Hunter is.?http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=6917
Well, if Jump Festa wasn?t already going to get massive crowds of people, you can expect them now. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter 3 is going to be at the show, and it will be playable for the masses to enjoy. Monster Hunter 3 already had a huge showing at the Tokyo Game Show, where Capcomhttp://gonintendo.com/?p=65487
has the most crowded booth of all attendees. Expect a wall of drooling monster hunters once Jump Festa kicks off.
I?ve received a tip from reader Oustshakur concerning a Gamekult interview with Stephan Bole , the Director of Nintendo France. Within, it appears that Mr. Bole discusses Monster Hunter 3 coming to Europe. Since Mr. Bole doesn?t work for Capcom, I am thinking that he might just be speculating. The original French question and answer is below.

- March (Wii)
- TBA: Monster Hunter 3 (Wii)
- TBA: Neopets Puzzle Adventure (Wii, NDS)
February 12, 2009 - The summer release schedule is starting to get crowded over in Japan. Following Dragon Quest IX's delay to July 11, Capcom came around with an announcement of its own late Thursday, saying that the highly anticipated Monster Hunter 3 would be arriving in the Summer. The game was previously marked with a vague TBA 2009 release period.http://wii.ign.com/articles/953/953949p1.html
While still only a minor series outside of Japan, in its home territory Monster Hunter is one of the biggest franchises around right now. The latest PSP version, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (known over there as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G) recently topped the three million shipment mark, becoming the first PSP title to achieve the feat.
A release for MH3 will mean one thing for many: no more lines. The game has become notorious for commanding huge waits at game events, with players lining up for over four hours to get a 20 minute sampler at the Tokyo Game Show.
Prior to MH3's release, Capcom will provide a sampler demo of the game with the Wii release of Monster Hunter G. That release is set for April 23.
February 18, 2009 - In a recent Top Secret podcast ? found on the official Bionic Commando website ? members of Capcom of America had a chance to chat games, and interview Keiji Inafune, Japanese game designer/director most known for the creation of the Mega Man series over 15 years ago. While most of the talks were directed to Dead Rising 2 and other future works, Inafune also commented on the state of Wii, specifically citing Monster Hunter 3 as one of the system's bigger upcoming games.http://wii.ign.com/articles/954/954998p1.html
We've transcribed the Wii-specific statements below, all of which were made by Inafune himself:
"Of course the Wii is a very important part of our multi-platform strategy. Games like RE4 on the Wii and Umbrella Chronicles have done quite well for us, and of course there's Monster Hunter. Although it isn't too popular, it was the number one selling title in Japan last year. So that goes to show we are very serious about the Wii as a company. People say that third-party Wii games don't sell in Japan, but I can honestly say that we are cutting no corners with Monster Hunter Tri. There's a lot of pressure to make it succeed, and I'm sure there will be a lot of shocked gamers out there when they see just how good Monster Hunter Tri looks. Please don't worry. We are putting a lot of effort into Wii as well."
We're hoping Monster Hunter 3 sees the success it needs to get a fully-supported English release, as it's quickly becoming one of the most robust ? and visually impressive, might we add ? third party titles on Wii.
?There is no significant change in Capcom?s strategy, and we will primarily release game titles for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. In addition, we plan to release our leading titles overseas to acquire game users, as the overseas market for Wii is extensive. One of our leading titles is ?Monster Hunter 3 (tri-).? If we can gain recognition of this product in the European and North American markets, our market strategy will see a noticeable change. Meanwhile, we are reviewing the possibility of releasing new titles besides ?Ace Attorney? for Nintendo DS.? - Capcom statementhttp://www.siliconera.com/2009/02/24/capcom-considering-to-make-more-ds-games/
?As for Monster Hunter Tri?We?ve got some amazing stuff in it. The graphics for the Wii are like nothing you?ve seen on the system before. It?s a really pretty game. In addition, we now have underwater combat which is brand new to the series. So there are lots of sea monsters and things like that you can go after. Fans of Monster Hunter are going to be really impressed with what we accomplished with Monster Hunter Tri.? - Capcom Product Manager Colin Ferrishttp://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=12683
1. Small Swordhttp://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335710&page=15
2. Lance
3. Hammer
4. Bowgun (3 customizable parts)
5. Big Sword
6. Long Blade
7. Slash Axe
That's something we hope to do a lot more of once Monster Hunter 3 hits Japan later this year. Control difficulties aside, the Monster Hunter 3 demo sucked us in and made us want more of Japan's biggest gaming phenomenon since Brain Age. We'll be first in line come the full game's summer release.http://wii.ign.com/articles/975/975197p1.html

Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter 3 is officially complete, which means that it should have no trouble making its August 1st release date. Japan is sure to go nuts over the game, and it will hopefully boost Wii sales much higher than they've been lately.http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=88143

60 days - 1,500 points
90 days - 2,000 points
Capcom announces western release date for Monster Hunter Trihttp://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=91714
SAN MATEO, Calif. ? August 3, 2009 ? Capcom? Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Monster Hunter? Tri will be released in both North America and Europe for Nintendo?s Wii? system in early 2010.
Monster Hunter Tri will set a new bar in the action/adventure genre with the introduction of new features and game play elements as the multi-million unit selling franchise makes its debut on the Wii system.
One of the most strikingly beautiful titles ever developed for Wii, Monster Hunter Tri depicts a living, breathing ecosystem where man co-exists with fantastic beasts that roam both the land and the sea. Featuring both online and offline cooperative modes, players can join online hunting parties with up to four players or play with two players on a single TV for select quests. Players also have the option to face Monster Hunter Tri?s challenging quests as a single player experience accompanied by Cha-Cha, an AI hunting partner whose tracking and trapping skills will prove invaluable in the hunt. New items, weapons and armor sets will also be available to assist the hunters as they embark on the most incredible Monster Hunter adventure to date.
?Fans of Nintendo and Monster Hunter are eagerly anticipating the launch of this title in the US, which will be the first time the series is available on a Nintendo home console,? said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America?s Vice President of Licensing. ?Having Capcom bring Monster Hunter Tri to the Wii console provides tremendous action, fun and entertainment to both veteran players and series newcomers alike.?
Visitors to this month?s GamesCom European gaming convention in Cologne, Germany August 19-23, will be the first to sample a localized version of the title on Capcom?s stand as it makes its English debut for a western audience. GamesCom attendees will have the opportunity to play the same game that took last year?s Tokyo Game Show by storm, with lines that stretched around Capcom?s stand as eager Japanese gamers waited in excess of five hours to play.
This desire to be one of the first to experience Monster Hunter Tri is indicative of the impact the Monster Hunter franchise has made on videogame culture in Japan. With sales of the series totaling well over 10 million units and 3.5 million sales of Monster Hunter Portable? 2ndG alone, it?s no surprise to find that Monster Hunter has given rise to dedicated ?training camps?, country-wide festivals and numerous licensed products. The franchise doesn?t just top the charts in Japan; it?s become a social phenomenon.
More information on Monster Hunter Tri will be revealed in the upcoming months. In the meantime, please visit the official Capcom press site at http://press.capcom.com

The latest Media Create sales show that Monster Hunter 3 has given Nintendo's Wii console a massive boost, nearly quadrupling sales. The hotly anticipated Wii release from Capcom, which received a perfect 40/40 score from Famitsu recently, sold ~520,000 units of its initial million shipment over its first two days of release to become the third best start on Wii, behind Mario Kart Wii (594,000 first week) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (820,000 first week). It is also the first Third Party home console release this generation to debut over the 500,000 mark, and also now ranks as the second highest Third Party Wii title, slightly behind Bandai Namco's Taiko no Tatsujin Wii.
The Classic Controller PRO bundles had a far higher sell-through rate than the standalone disc, out-selling it by around 2-to-1, with the majority of early uptakers being of University age or above, unlike with the PSP editions of Monster Hunter that have drawn in the younger demographic. Only 25,000 units of the special MH3 Wii console/game/controller bundle were made available and in two days 20,000 of those had gone, with the rest being snapped up soon after, and on top of that 45,000 of the new Black Wii consoles were sold, along with plenty of Wii Lan Adapters and Wii Points cards for use with the Wii Pay and Play online mode included.
Elsewhere, even though Dragon Quest IX's sales fell a further 33% from the week prior, it is still ahead of Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)'s sales so far and Square Enix confirmed over the weekend that 3.5 million copies have actually shipped to retailers, meaning more copies will definitely be needed in the near future. The company's president went on record last year to say he fully expects 5 million sales from Japan alone in the long-run, but that will all depend on the game's sales longevity. Nintendo's Friend Collection actually rises in sales this week and looks to be a dead cert for the next DS million seller, with Wii Sports Resort easily chugging along to the same milestone and a strong new entry for SEGA's DS-timed-exclusive, Puyo Puyo 7, at No.5 with nearly 52,000 units.

A few more details about Monster Hunter 3, coming from producer Tsujimoto Ryozo...http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=93671
- "We love the idea of voice chat (WiiSpeak) and we know that it is a minimum for western players"
- online payment system not decided yet
- "Although connection ratio is lower in this console, in 20 days it has grown, and the amount of people playing online is growing every day."
- "Actually, we knew that the visual aspect is very important, so we set the graphics as our main goal. That's where we spent a lot of time. I think we have the best graphics on Wii".
You?ve slaughtered and captured monsters, gathered together for life-threatening missions and ventured in perilous grounds but do you have what it takes to forge the perfect Monster Hunter?s weapon? Prove it!http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=95749
To celebrate its ever growing Community, Capcom has two challenges for all Monster Hunters:
1. FORGE THE WEAPON: design a new weapon for Monster Hunter Tri (PAL region). The weapon must belong to one of the official categories (Great Sword, Sword & Shield, Hammer, Lance, Switch Axe, Long Sword, Bowgun ? Light, Medium, Heavy).
2. NAME THE WEAPON: your drawing skills haven?t improved since you were 2 years old but words are your thing and you have always thought there should be a Long Sword called Aninchlong (orSekai Ichi Mijikai Ken) in game? We have some nameless, mysterious weapons in need of befitting names. Submit your suggestion indicating what category the weapon belongs to.

?Two of the big things that we?re doing right now is we?re setting up the network infrastructure in North America and in Europe, so that in itself is kind of a challenge. Since we?re building it from the ground up, we?re able to take more into consideration what western players want. So we heard a lot of feedback and heard a lot of input from Western gamers about what they really want in their online mode. The other thing we?re doing is we?re adding some new weapons to the game and right now we have a competition, a contest on the Capcom-Unity site, so if you check out our Unity site, it?s running until the end of September, and we might pick one if there is a really cool weapon for the contest and then you might see your weapon in the game.?http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=24928
CS: Monster Hunter is an interesting one for us. It's a phenomenon in Japan that we're certainly trying to recreate in the West. We are strategically investing in the brand in the West, because we know that as a company we're going to continue to be creating Monster Hunter content, so it behooves us to do what it takes to make it stick here.http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/christian-svensson-part-two-interview
GI: There was talk of charging for online play for Monster Hunter in the West?
Christan Svensson: Let's just say that discussions about business models in the West are ongoing. We have not selected one direction or another. When we get a little closer to release we will definitely be sharing what the model will be.
