Factor 5 says we?ll hear more about Wii projects very soonFactor 5 President Addresses ?Superman? Game Rumors, Health Of StudioNot much has been heard of from development studio Factor 5 since last year?s poorly received PlayStation 3 dragon epic ?Lair.?
But recent reports have the studio best known for a stream of highly regarded ?Star Wars: Rogue Squadron? flight-combat games back in the news , this time for supposedly having been making a ?Superman? game for collapsing game publisher Brash.
Multiplayer reached out to Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht to find out what the story is with ?Superman? and what fans of the company should know about the studio?s status. He provided the following not terribly cryptic statement:
?We are working on several projects, both multi-platform as well as single-platform titles for the Wii which you will hear a lot more about very soon.
?One of our large-scale multi-platform projects was started with Brash because it is a dream property for us, hasn?t been given its dues in gaming since the Atari 2600, and has a huge universe to draw from. It also is a long-term project because we were not wiling to compromise quality at all from the start and make this into what we as fans, and hopefully every fan of the property - movies old or new, comic-book, or TV - wants to play. If we have delivered the ultimate fantasy fulfillment in a galaxy far, far away, this one certainly is intended to do the same for a completely different universe.
?With that said, things are obviously in flux and we hope that the game proves to be as indestructible as our hero??
Eggebrecht didn?t quite say the word ?Superman? there, but it doesn?t take superpowers to read between those lines. Any bets on what those ?titles for the Wii? are?

Reggie - Not enough Wii Fit for the holidays, third parties aren?t putting their best content on Wii?(Reggie on holiday hardware/software supplies) With Wii hardware, I think we?ve got a good shot at meeting demand during the holidays. With ?Wii Fit,? I know we?ll fall short. That?s a product we have consumers lining up for each morning outside of our Nintendo World store [in New York City].?
?(Reggie on third party Wii support) I will be able to say our licensees ?get it? when their very best content is on our platform. And with very few exceptions today, that?s not the case.?

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 heads to Wii : Thursday 20th November/? Codemasters? today announced that Colin McRae: DiRT?2, the sequel to the acclaimed best-selling off-road racer of 2007, is now in development at Codemasters Studios for the PLAYSTATION?3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft? and Games For Windows? LIVE with further editions for Wii?, Nintendo DS? and PSP? (PlayStation?Portable) system due for simultaneous release in 2009.
The announcement marks confirmation that the game will be headlined by Colin McRae, honouring the life of the rally legend. Colin McRae, who consulted on the series for over ten years, tragically died in a helicopter accident in September 2007. The decision to continue the famous series bearing his name was made jointly between the McRae family and Codemasters.
?Colin McRae was all about the speed, the excitement and the entertainment of rally driving. Even when we first worked with him over ten years ago, he captured a freedom and a spirit that enthralled rally fans.? said Gavin Raeburn, senior executive producer at Codemasters Studios. ?Later his showmanship shone through in events such as the X-games, the Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions. He could do things with a car that no one else would and that?s where we?re taking the series with new events at the extreme edge of rally and autosport. It will be a great tribute to an incredible champion.?
Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. This World Tour will have players competing in aggressive multi-car and intense solo races at extraordinary new locations, from canyon racing and jungle trails to city stadium-based events.
?Rally has attracted new stars and a new style that makes it more vibrant and exciting than ever before; it?s right up there as a premium extreme sport, attracting fresh crowds and a new confident attitude,? said Raeburn.
?Colin McRae: DiRT 2 mirrors this new, exciting direction and, in a way, we?ll be throwing off some of the shackles and constraints that real-world rallying has to abide by. We?re pitching players against the most spectacular and dangerous environments in the real world.?
To be powered by the third generation of the EGO? Engine?s award-winning racing game technology, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will benefit from tuned-up car-handling physics system and new damage engine effects. It will also showcase a spectacular new level of visual fidelity, with cars and tracks twice as detailed as those seen in Race Driver: GRID.
Colin McRae: DiRT 2?s garage will house a best-in-class collection of officially licensed rally cars and off-road vehicles, specifically selected to deliver aggressive and fast paced racing. Covering seven vehicle classes, players will be given the keys to powerful vehicles right from the off. In Colin McRae: DiRT 2 the opening drive is the Group N Subaru; essentially making the ultimate car from the original game the starting point in the sequel and the rides just get even more impressive.
In addition to the World Tour, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will come complete with full online functionality that will be core to the overall experience, with head-to-head competitive online play and new social features to engage the racing community. Prepare for mud, gravel, dust and dirt too in Colin McRae: DiRT 2, coming 2009. Sign up for the drive of your life at www.codemasters.com/dirt2.

Anouma - Ocarina was original because there were no gameplay types to copy, Miyamoto loves horses, and another confirmation of the next ZeldaNP: Ten years after its release, Ocarina of Time is still revered by many as the best and most influential game ever made. Why do you think it has made such a large and lasting impact?
EA: Unlike Miyamoto, who had a firm idea of what he wanted to make based on his experiences developing 3d games in the past, I was working on a 3d game for the first time. Since there weren?t any similar games to emulate, I groped around in the dark for quite some time. In the end, when I heard the testers? response, I heaved a sigh of relief.
Since there was nothing to copy, we were forced to be original. I believe that is why we were able to create a game that inspired a fresh sense of wonder in its players?.
Mr. Aonuma also lets us in the the secret of how Epona came to be?
EA: If I said we included Epona because Miyamoto likes horses, that would be oversimplifying it, but that was actually the biggest factor. He wanted Ocarina to be unique, and realized that there weren?t any other games that involved riding a horse?.
Finally, for those of you that think Aonuma should be busy making the next Zelda game instead of doing interviews, this should make you happy.
Anouma took a break from crafting his next Zelda adventure (still top secret) to look back at the game that shaped his career.
