Paper Mario 3DS (working title) is a console role-playing game in the Paper Mario series. It was announced on the E3 website on June 2010 for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS.
According to GameSpot, the gameplay looked similar to previous games, but the visuals and special effects had seen an overhaul, along with a more subtle but still effective 3D effect. A segment with Mario setting off a switch, shutting down the background had been seen.
It will be in 3D and 2D. The screenshots and reports confirm this Paper Mario will go back to the turn-based battling of the first and the second games. As seen from the screen shots, there seems to be no battle information on the top screen. Once again, Mario will be followed by partners to aid him in battle, a feature returning with the turn based combat (seen with a Chain Chomp).
G4TV reports that "The papercraft look didn’t exactly come out of the screen, but the contrast between the traditional cartoonish 3D Mario environments and the papercraft objects worked very well. Plus, Nintendo is clearly going to be playing tricks on you with the 3D. At one point, smashing a block prompted the wall behind Mario to sink back, revealing a new space to play in."[1]
Wired reports that "The non-interactive demo of the 3DS version at E3 showed a variety of scenes, battles and exploration, illustrating that the game is quite far along in development. The console versions have been uniformly excellent, so we’ve got high hopes for this one.
