The previously 360 and PC-only Splinter Cell Conviction is now also set for a simultaneous release on PS3, according major UK retailer GAME.The site also pens the game to release on all three formats on April 1, despite previous announcements only stating a vague early 2008 release. As we all know, retailers have a tendency to let slip on things publishers don't always want revealing. Just look at Konami's latest announcement, of which first word came from a very similar posting. However, Ubisoft UK has told CVG that neither a PS3 version of Conviction, or any proposed release date, have been confirmed by the publisher.

That may now not be the case though, with evidence pointing towards a PS3 exclusive release for the Ubisoft title. Whether or not this could be console exclusive, or perhaps just a timed exclusive is not yet known.Leading UK videogames retailer Game yesterday removed the pre-order listing for the Xbox 360 version, whilst both PS3 and PC-DVD iterations both remain available. Amazon UK however are now only listing the PC version for pre-order after removing both 360 and PS3 versions, whilst Play.com are continuing to take orders across all formats.Further evidence that there may be some platform shuffling going on comes from the official Ubisoft Far Cry 2 website, where both Xbox 360, Xbox Live and PS3 logos have been removed from the page footer, with only the PC-DVD still listed.

Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 may now be PS3 exclusive?
Games Radar is claiming (via Games World UK) that inside sources tell them God of War 3 won't be released until at the earliest Christmas 2009. That date seems to fall under common sense, given that two years passed between the first two God of War titles and the next iteration is taking a leap to the more technically-proficient PlayStation 3.

Now, according to CVG, the survival horror title will drop on the Xbox 360, Wii, PC and PS2 in May of 2008. As you may have noticed, the PS3 is absent from that list, and with good reason: That version is now due "sometime in 2008."

Some speculate that an interview with Frank Delise done through Gamespot kind of gave the foreshadowing for this event. It was in this interview that Frank stated, "Mostly the engine we're using--Unreal Engine 3. One of the main things about it is that the PS3 came a year later than the Xbox 360, so that actually delayed us making a budget in a sense for what's possible on the PS3 versus the Xbox and PC. Also, the engine wasn't ready for a year later because the PS3 came out a year later. So [with] the Xbox and the PC platform we've found more solid a platform to develop on, but the engine is literally just finished for that platform and that's actually a long time. All the first games for the PS3 are coming out now for the PS3 on that engine."THQ had the following to say about the issue, "In October, we announced certain product quality initiatives, including personnel and structural changes in product development and a more rigorous internal and external product evaluation and feedback process," said Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. "Consistent with these initiatives, we have taken actions to strengthen our pipeline and position ourselves to compete aggressively with compelling, high quality games."

Publisher Ubisoft has once again pushed back the release date of Free Radical's drug-enhanced shooter Haze. The company now expects the title to arrive at some point during its 2008 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009.
Grand Theft Auto IV will be hitting the February to April target that Take 2 set when the game was delayed last year, if only just barely. The game has now been slated to drop on April 29th.
An anonymous Best Buy employee has sent us a scan of an internal letter, which notifies employees that the 80GB system is being discontinued. "The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won't be replaced at this time," it reads. "It will come off the planogram on Jan. 28. The 60GB version should already be gone from stores. Only the 40GB version of PS3 will be sold in Best Buy stores at this time."There have been very shady rumors suggesting Sony is planning on introducing a cheaper $299 version of its console (although that has been repeatedly denied by Sony). Earlier in the week, we also discovered an FCC filing for a white model PS3. Whatever's going on, it appears that Sony's making moves for a big change. Stay tuned.
